EKSPLORASI ETNOMATEMATIKA: PERHITUNGAN HARI BAIK DI KABUPATEN TAKALAR

This study aims to explore ethnomathematics in determining auspicious days among the people of Takalar Regency, which has been passed down through generations. The system integrates local cultural elements and mathematical concepts such as patterns, sequences, and cycles based on four natural elements: earth, water, wind, and fire. Additionally, mathematical concepts such as crosses, circles, squares, and rectangles are also identified. Using an ethnographic research approach, data were collected through interviews, field observations, and documentation. The analysis reveals that the people of Takalar utilize cyclical patterns in their calendar system, which not only serves as a tool for time determination but also reflects local cultural values and philosophies. The findings underscore the significant role of mathematics in this tradition, including the use of sequential and repetitive patterns, and the importance of preserving this tradition amidst the challenges of modernization. This research contributes significantly to developing ethnomathematics studies and their relevance to culturally-based education.
