Abstract

Ethnomathematics is a bridge that connects mathematics with culture. One example is the application of mathematics in making and serving traditional Katirisala food, which comes from Bugis culture. This ethnographic research, using a qualitative approach, aims to explore the concept of geometry and study the cultural values of Katirisala. This research used interviews, observations and documentation to obtain an in-depth description and analysis of the exploration of ethnomathematics in the traditional food of the Bugis people. To ensure the validity of the data, a triangulation technique was used. The research subjects consisted of Bugis-Makassar culturalists and Katirisala makers. The data obtained were then analyzed to describe the findings in the form of geometry concepts and cultural values contained in Katirisala. The results showed that Katirisala contains geometry concepts such as congruence, flat shapes: circle, triangle, square, and rectangle, and spatial shapes: tube and triangular prism. In addition, Katirisala also reflects cultural values such as strength, hope, and togetherness which are reflected through the philosophy of brown sugar and sticky rice layers in the food. This research is expected to support contextual math learning based on local culture to improve students' understanding of geometry concepts.
