Abstract

The use of instructional media can make teaching and learning activities more effective. Learning media can help teachers convey learning messages and are faster and easier to catch by students. Indonesian itself is one of the most important subjects in Elementary School with the aim of increasing the ability of students to communicate well, both orally and in writing. Learning Indonesian often makes students feel bored if learning is monotonous and the teacher only uses the lecture method. This study aims to get an overview of the improvement of speaking skills of class I SDI Onekore 6 students using image media. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with the type of Classroom Action Research. The data collection technique uses instruments in the form of direct observation of learning activities carried out by teachers and students and speaking practice using image media. Based on data analysis and processing, it was found that the mean value of the initial test was 17.5, the average value of speaking skills in the first cycle was 33.85 and the average value in the second cycle was 56.87. The value obtained shows that there is an increase in the speaking skills of students in cycle I and cycle II using image media. This means that the use of image media can improve the speaking skills of students in Indonesian language lessons.
