Abstract

Elementary school-age children are in a growth and development crisis phase. The formation of clean and healthy living behaviors contributes to the long-term health of the child. The purpose of this integrated hygiene education program is for students to have an increased understanding and experience in improving cleanliness in their life behavior. The method of implementing community service activities with a promotive and preventive approach refers to the concept of health education for school-age children. The implementation of the activity was carried out by lecturers of the Midwifery Study Program of the Al Insyirah Institute of Health and Technology together with 7th Semester Midwifery students. The target of the activity was students of State Elementary School (SD) 004 Pulau Birandang, Kampa District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province. The activity will be held in January 2026. The stages of the activity consist of: preparation stages: identifying the needs of partners and determining the location of the activity; implementation stages with material on cleanliness, the screening of animated videos on cleanliness, and demonstrations of handwashing practices to all students; and evaluation stages to see the extent of the understanding of community service participants. The results obtained by the participants were very enthusiastic about participating in the activity, as can be seen from direct observation of the participants by asking about the material presented, the activeness of the students during the activity 90%, the ability to answer questions 85%, the ability to practice hand washing 80% and the interest in educational media 92%. An educational approach that combines interactive counseling, audiovisual media, demonstrations, and hands-on practice has been proven to improve students' knowledge, skills, and awareness of the importance of maintaining personal hygiene. Therefore, continuous support from schools is needed through extracurricular activities related to cleanliness and collaboration with health workers, especially village midwives and health centers, in developing promotive and preventive strategies to improve the health status of elementary school-age children.
